Latitude AI - Peter Carr

The Latitude Difference: Engineering the Future of Autonomy from the Inside Out.

At Latitude AI, we aren’t just building another automated driving system. We are reimagining the fundamental relationship between a human and their vehicle. While the industry at large often grapples with fragmented stacks and third-party dependencies, we've made a deliberate, strategic choice to do things differently. We are building the future of automated driving entirely in-house to create Ford's most advanced ADAS system. And this isn't a distant vision – it is our roadmap for the future. Our next-generation hands-free driving system is launching on the all-new Ford Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) in 2027.

Developing AI for real-world driving applications in-house unlocks full control of our roadmap and enables expanded capabilities. This isn't just a technical preference, it is a mission-critical design choice that allows us to move with efficiency, think deeper, and deliver an impact that will scale to millions of customers.

Small Teams, Massive Surface Area

We operate as an agile, elite group. By design, we've kept our team lean and highly specialized so that every team member's contributions across the org are valuable and impactful. Our engineers are highly empowered to set and execute the technical direction of our system. At Latitude, you'll find a cross-functional environment where a single ML engineer or systems architect has a direct hand in the software that will power the in-vehicle autonomy across the Ford fleet.

The Power of the In-House Stack

To deliver on the promise of democratizing autonomy, we decided to own the entire journey. By developing our next-generation ADAS platform in-house, we have achieved:

  • Vertical Integration: From training SOTA models on our internal GPU data centers to optimizing on-vehicle compute architecture, we control every variable.
  • Unprecedented Efficiency: Our tightly integrated design has already enabled us to reduce system complexity and costs by more than 30%.
  • Engineered for Real Life: We combine cutting-edge ML with Ford's 120-year legacy of vehicle safety and human-centric design. We use this deep understanding of how people actually drive to move technology out of the development phase and into the hands of real customers by 2027.

Unified Autonomy

We don't believe in silos. Our strategy is built on a single, unified autonomy platform that supports both hands-free (L2) and, over time, eyes-free (L3) driving. This unified approach allows us to share data and learnings efficiently, which is an advantage for expanding the operating domain where automated driving features can operate. Our in-house platform will also allow us to innovate and bring new active safety features, security features, and visual experiences using the same core system. By leveraging fleet-wide data, these systems will engage in a continuous feedback loop that drives ongoing autonomy improvement.

Why Latitude?

At Latitude, we are uniquely positioned to give our employees the opportunity to do their best work. If you want to ship products to customers at scale that will redefine their relationship with their vehicle, we are always looking for experts in machine learning, robotics, and cloud infrastructure to join our team. We provide the resources of an automotive giant with the nimbleness execution speed of a startup.
